PIERCE COUNTY FAIR GOES VIRTUAL IN 2020

Out of an abundance of caution, Pierce County and the Pierce County Fair Association have decided to go virtual with the 2020 Pierce County Fair, normally held at Frontier Park in Graham.

“We know how much the community enjoys and values the Fair and we will be working diligently to create an experience everyone can enjoy,” said Shelly Bennett, Manager of the Pierce County Fair. “We are researching virtual fair options in order to move forward in showcasing and celebrating the Pierce County community and its youth.”

The Fair is scheduled for August 6 - 9, but organizers are announcing this decision now so that friends, sponsors, vendors, and the community can be prepared for a virtual fair this year.

“While we wish we could go ahead with the usual sights, smells and excitement of the Pierce County Fair, we have been working with 4-H and other fairs around the state to develop virtual, web-based alternatives,” said Bennett.“Our hearts go out to those who depend on the Fair for their livelihood and we are looking for ways the community can show their support to our vendors, sponsors, entertainers and others who have been impacted.”

“Fair organizers are actively working with the County and 4-H, looking for a safe and healthy way for 4-H Youth to showcase their animals and projects. Our young people have been working hard all year and we feel it is important to recognize their efforts.” said Bennett.

Updates and further information will be available via the Pierce County Fair’s social media platforms.

COVID-19

As COVID-19 continues to spread throughout our state and country, we are closely monitoring the state and local authorities and their recommendations for social events. We are hopeful that the actions that are currently being taken will help to stop the spread of this virus and we will all be able to resume our normal activities soon. Here is a link to the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) if you are looking for more information on COVID-19
At the Pierce County Fair we take extra measures to ensure the cleanliness of the facilities each day of the Fair as well as have available plenty of options for hand washing and sanitizing. Even though August is a little ways off, we are already planning for additional hand wash stations, hand-sanitizer units and increased sanitizing of all things communal.

Our thoughts are with the patients, healthcare providers, first-responders, and all those impacted by COVID-19.

Just a note: we do not run other events at Frontier Park. If you are looking for information regarding other events at Frontier Prak or facility rentals, please contact Pierce County Parks: (253) 798-4049

In Loving Memory – Betty Backstrom

“Managing a Fair on High”

The Pierce County Fair will always be known for being a fun family experience, shared by thousands each year. Many of those memories were because of a tireless individual.

It is now time to rest for Betty Backstrom, Fair Manager, Friend and Mentor.

Betty not only had a large, blood related family, but had an even larger extended Fair Family. All are sharing in the loss of someone so giving, we also share her love of life. As we travel our separate ways, we are extensions of what she brought into this world.

Rest in Peace…
