4-H SEWING DEPARTMENT

Entries should be entered into Fair Entry by July 24, 2020 if at all possible

  • Exhibitors must be enrolled in the 4-H Clothing and Textiles project.  
  • Items from Fashion Revue may be entered in this department.
  • Describe the exhibit in the description block in FairEntry (yellow plaid skirt, red print pillow, etc.).  
  • Exhibits may include sewn equipment (pin cushion, pressing ham, seam roll, etc.); sewn storage units (garment bags, shoe bags, jewelry cases, etc.); sewn home decor (wind socks, pillows, curtains, etc.); sewn accessories (hair scrunchies, hats, purses, etc.); sewn items from recycled fabrics, as well as sewn garments.
  • Each article must have a 3"X5" card listing exhibitor’s age and year in project and explaining what it is, how it will be used, how it will be cared for and the skills learned while making it (download card into FairEntry as a photo or document).  If no card is attached, exhibit will be dropped one ribbon placing.  
  • You may enter 5 items per lot.
  • Duct Tape garments/accessories must be entered in the 4-H Arts Department

Required Photos for FairEntry

Items that don’t have a wrong side (inside) visible like scrunchies, mats, stuffed animals, pillows, etc

Lay items on a light-colored surface in a well-lit area for photographing. Spread out all parts so judges can see. Do NOT hang items.

Class 14:  Sewing Judging Contest.

Class 85:  Embellished Items

Lot:

  1. Embellished Items – any purchased or fabric made item embellished by the member using a sewing technique, 3” x 5” card must include what technique(s) used

Class 86:  Costumes

  1. Simple
  2. Difficult

Class 87:  Separates

Lot:

  1. Single Separate (skirt, shorts, slacks, blouse, shirt, jumper, loungewear, hoody, etc.)

        2.  Coordinated Separates (two or more garments constructed by exhibitor, such as skirt and blouse, pants, vest and shirt, jumper and blouse, etc.)

  • Each exhibit should have a 3”x5” card with the following information: 1.) Age of exhibitor; 2.) Title of project enrolled in; 3.) Number of years in project; 4.) Fiber content of thread or yarn; 5.) Care label   (Include 3x5 card in one of the required photos)
  • Limit of two items per class

  • Needlework-Each entry must be accompanied by a 3”x5” card to explain what it is, where it is to be used and why it was made (download to FairEntry as a photo or document). Include technique, i.e.: cross-stitch. crewel, creative, etc.  Exhibits without a 3”x5” card will be dropped one ribbon placing.  Those exhibiting needlework should be enrolled in Creative Arts project.  Limit of 2 entries per lot.
  • If a picture, it should be framed; if a wall-hanging, it need not be framed but should be ready to hang.
