General ~

  • You must be enrolled in the Dog Project and must have your dog(s) entered into 4-H Online in order to enter dog department classes.
  • Exhibitors must follow Pierce County Fair and Dog Project Rules
  • Each dog must be clean and well groomed
  • You may enter up to two dogs
  • Obedience Appropriate Attire is required. Long pants with no holes or rips, appropriate footwear, and a nice shirt with no logos.
  • In order to attend the state fair, 4-Hers entering Showmanship and obedience will be given first priority.
  • No treats are allowed while taping unless allowed in a particular class.

Videotaping ~

  • Make sure to position your camera person at a spot where you can be seen at all times.
  • One continuous video “take” is preferred. For obedience classes, you may stop the recording between exercises or do multiple short videos. Trick class is 4 separate videos.
  • Zoom in as much as possible so that your feet and hands can be seen, you shouldn’t be just a blur in the distance. On the other hand, we need to see the whole dog/handler at all times.
  • Use as high a quality setting as possible
  • Make sure and keep the sound on.
  • Videos must be no more than 5 minutes long

Class 451 Showmanship

Lot 1

Showmanship (Junior, Intermediate & Senior)

Video, approximately 2-4 minutes, of the youth showing specified ring pattern, and stacking your dog

Video is of the youth showing the dog to the judge, or videographer. Youth enters the ring, stacks the dog to the judges left. Handler shows the bottom of the feet, inside of the ears, bite and runs their hand down the back of the dog. Handler then does a pattern (Juniors - Down & Back, Intermediates - Triangle, Seniors - “L” pattern) with appropriate gait for your dog, camera person does not move from spot but follows exhibitor with camera. When you return to the judge, stack the dog and present to the judge/camera. Dog should be groomed appropriately for the show ring. Youth should be in Obedience appropriate attire. Treats are allowed in this class.

Class 452 Obedience Events

Lot 452 Sub Novice

Junior/ Intermediate/ Senior

Video clips of each exercise listed on the score sheet. Omit the 3 minute long down exercise on Sub Novice and Novice score sheets.

View link to see scoresheets and patterns below. The judge or Camera will stay in one place and follow the handler while completing the class.There will be no long down stays for any listed class. Stand for examinations will be a just a stand stay for each class (no exam). These classes are being modified to fit the virtual fair for the Pierce County Fair ONLY. For those in upper division classes you may choose which class you would like to participate in. Treats or lures are NOT allowed in this class and if seen will result in a white ribbon automatically.

Class 467 Costume Contest

Lot 1

Junior

Take 2-3 pictures or a short video of your dog from different angles in their costume.

Have fun with this and dress up your dog. You can dress up also! Submit pictures with your entry showing front and side views. Treats may be used in this class.

Breed posters are not eligible to be entered at the State Fair. For this class, posters may be computer generated and sent as a PDF. No plagiarism allowed!! and sources must be included.

Class 16 Dog Judging

Lot 1

Judging will be done on August 1st, 9 am until noon

Register for your age group. On August 1st at 9 am, an email will be sent out to all registered participants with a link to the judging slide show and your score card. The link will only be active until 12 pm. All score cards must be submitted by 12:30 pm to the judge. Judge will be available for questions via email from 9am to noon on August 1st. There will be no oral reasons, just written reasons. State team will be decided by highest scores in each age group.

Class 392 Dog Bowl

Kahoot quiz will be sent out on July 26th to those registered and participants will have untilJuly 31st to complete the quiz.

Register for your age group. You will be sent a link to a kahoot quiz and will have 6 days to complete it. All answers will be tallied. The state team will be composed of those that answered the most correct answers in the fastest amount of time for Intermediates and Seniors. .
