Text Box: The Pierce County Fair Association is not alone in it’s annual endeavor of creating the fair. The Pierce County Fair would not exist without the support of the citizenry of Pierce County. These “Friends of the Fair” seek little or no recognition and often go unnoticed. However, their willingness to support the Pierce County Fair allows this annual event continue to play a part in thousands of Pierce County resident’s lives.
The Pierce County Fair Association wishes to recognize some of these “Friends of the Fair”.

Individual Recognition- Beth Rossow

There are many constants at the Pierce County Fair. The animals will be showing, the smell of onion burgers and scones will fill the air and Beth will be in the office. Beth Rossow has worked for Pierce County Fair since she was 15, starting in the parking lot. Since then, she has sold admission tickets, helped Emmy Scholz manage the concessions and became the Fair Office Wonder Woman. Her Fair shift usually begins a week prior to fair where you will find her dealing with more things than one could ever imagine. She can turn a rough situation into something positive in seconds. Beth will admit she does not have the answer to every question, but has no problem tracking down the correct person who will. She has made friends with many people who come to the Fair just to say “Hi” Beth. During the rest of the year, Beth hikes miles and miles in the West Coast National Parks and she lives in her tree house in Shelton. We are delighted to make her one of our 2008 Friends of Fair.

Organization Recognition- Puyallup Rotary

When dawn breaks on the first day of Fair, exhibitors rush to put the final touches to their displays and projects. During this hectic time, the Puyallup Rotary has assured that the exhibitors and staff will begin their day with a healthy breakfast. Since shortly after the creation of the Pierce County Fair, The Puyallup Rotary has been serving a delicious ham and pancake breakfast that has exhibitors lined up very early on the first day of the Fair.
This annual tradition has become the “unofficial” start of the Fair with exhibitors, volunteers and Fair Board Directors using the event as a fair reunion. The breakfast is one of few opportunities for the entire Fair Family to come together. Some years, the breakfast has been the center of radio and television broadcasts as well as the gathering place for local dignitaries. The Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department even schedules their weekly meeting at the breakfast. While there has not been an official count, it is believed that over 10,000 breakfasts have been provided by the Puyallup Rotary Volunteers. We just want to say “Thank You” for your years of dedicated service to the community.
